Dan the Man-an introduction to my classes
Переглядів 74Рік тому
I usually wait a few weeks before I post this on the class Blackboard site. I am always delightedly surprised when the students attempt to greet me with the entire Dan-the-Man title. But most settle for, "Your Royal Highness" or "Your Majesty." (I do not give extra credit for their attempt but I do look upon each particular student with affection.)

Awesome video. I’m a beginner harmonica player about a year into my musical journey. At this point I’m mostly using tabs but I really enjoy learning how to count bests, read music etc. I’m really enjoying the learning theory part too. This is all do fascinating to me. Unfortunately it took me til 56 to realize how much I enjoy this. But it’s all good. I’m glad I started when I did at least. Thanks again!!!
Best video ever. I am a piano teacher who recently moved to the US and had to relearn how to teach, in English, as it is my second language. This video helps a lot!
what about complex time when eight note getst eh beat? like all blues miles davis
Check out this video about Compound Time. ua-cam.com/video/6SPnqY1_bzA/v-deo.html
Very easy to unferstand.Thank you.
Tanks.
Thank you so much for making the video, it's really helpful to me!
Very useful
RIP Peter. While I love this, I worry that future generations will not appreciate the gender issues. Shouldn't be an issue, I agree. The characters expected different than they got. It's okay. "I assumed she was a man, she talked that way."
Lola, she looked like a woman but talked like a man.
Lola... she walks like a woman but she talks like a man.
I think I have a copy on vinyl up in my roof. Great hearing this musical anarchy again!😂
Thank you for posting this and thank you Peter, again and again. SO missed already
I have been a beginner musician of piano as a child and violin as an adult but I have never been educated in the fundamentals of music. As the lecture started I wasn't initially drawn in but I persevered and the lecture turned out to be at the level I needed to start understand the music I have been reading and using. The key board reference is very helpful for me. I seem to always use the keyboard as my reference. I look forward to the next lecture.
With the passing of Professor Schickele yesterday, I had to track this down and start my day with a smile. He will be missed.
I heard this live in 1979. My gut still hurts from laughing. The live performance included a crabby stage manager.
Thank you for letting me know about his passing. I shouldn't be surprised that, even though so many of my friends are into "classical music" and most of the groups I have on Facebook, none of them mentioned this.
RIP Professor Schickele 😢
Thank you. Could you please play a instrument like piano to add another teaching tool as you explain these? So part A is visual part B is looking at notes on board while you play the measure.? Combing the 2 would really help even more. This was a great lesson. Now if I can hear how it sounds on instruments. I struggle with my 8th and 16 notes. I get really confused. BUT this helped a lot!!! 😅
Thank you we’re does the triplet fall in line with the sixteenths note graph trying to get straight answer we’re it lines up for right count instead of saying triplet or one and ah thanks
I apologize for the late reply. Check out this video about compound time. ua-cam.com/video/6SPnqY1_bzA/v-deo.html You can mix compound time (triplets) with simple time (duplets) in a song but I did not cover that. I did this video about counting simple time subdivisions of the beat (quarter note/2 eighth notes/4 sixteenth notes) and then this other video to talk about compound time (triplets on the beat.)
This is a great, awesome way to learn the base clef.
I like the explanation before the dotted 8th 16th note which totally lost me. Guess it will come in time. Thanks for the first half though, very well written out and clear!!
excellent, what i was looking for - Thanks ...
very interesting and helpful - Many Thanks !!!
thank you for this helpful video!
Glad it was helpful!
Good
Awesome
Very helpful! Thank you! Just starting on my own.
❤ Dan, Thank You. 💫
Mr. Cutchen: What is the name of the first tune played on your video "Bass Clef Note Identification Exercise Learn Your Notes."
Thank you so much Mr. Cutchen. I just started this course and your videos will help a ton!
Djing brought me here.
I'm so happy right now.
69 comments... okay ... wait so this at 2x speed at level 4. RIDICULOUS
Very useful. Thanks for posting.
I love your energy sir.
Thank you
@Athanas P George is trippin
I bought this sublime piece on Sheet Music Plus just today. Is there a recording of the piano accompaniment available for practice?
I am so glad. www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/tuba-and-piano-mobile-meditation-accompaniment-track-digital-sheet-music/20924225?ac=1
Just a follow up note: I see that most of the comments are from individuals that already understand timing and notation, so I guess that I’m out of line. But whether or not you’re in the front of the class, or sitting way in the rear, my comments are very much valid. There’s more to be gained. Thanks
You’re more interested in the 1,e,&,a than you are the way the notes are written or seen. We’re not in college, and you’re not trying to cram a lecture in to 20 minutes, or are you? Slow down and give us a second or two to absorb the content. You’re good, but I couldn’t watch you 4-5 times just to get what I should have the 1st or 2nd time around. You make me feel like a blind man watching a race. Which is sad, because you’re enjoying you, more than I am.

Thank you, but you don’t seem to mention “triplets”. Its in the name of this video.
Thank you for that
This would be so much more useful for both reading and ear trainng if it played the actual notes instead of an unrelated soundtrack
Is the pronunciation "Mobile" as in "moe-beal" the city in Alabama or simply "Mobile" as in movement?
It is pronounced like the city in Alabama. My hometown.
I'm all smiles. I haven't heard this in decades. I've been hoping someone would post this sooner or later. Thanks so much!!!
Thank you
we are them
This brings me joy
Liked your help with my nots that’s mate
I've gol the 4:15 up to the end
Sorry. Can't hear the tuba. Is the microphone inside the piano?
Hi Dan thanks for the lesson. That is really useful. Can you do a lesson on off beat. Sort of struggling to count when at the start of a measure you have an eighth note followed by a quarter note or where you have a long rest and then at the end of a measure an eighth. In band music which I play it happens a lot
